Eng303JERUSALEM (PNIC):-The Israeli army Chief of Staff, Gadi Eisenkot, decided on Thursday to deploy reinforcements along the Gaza borders with Israel amid security concerns.

According to Hebrew-language news outlets, amid high tensions in the besieged Gaza Strip, Eisenkot held a situation assessment meeting with Israeli army generals, during which he decided to deploy additional Israeli forces to the southern command along the Gaza borders in the next few days.

The Israeli army said that the decision was taken in order "to continue the determined policy to thwart terror attacks and prevent infiltration into Israel in the border fence area of the Gaza Strip."

"The Israeli army is prepared and ready for a variety of scenarios and considers the Hamas terror organization responsible for everything that happens in and from the Gaza Strip."

The decision to deploy additional forces was taken as a precaution against any "violent" protests along the border.

Since March 30th, thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza -- which has suffered from a decade-long Israeli siege -- have been protesting at the eastern borders of the besieged enclave to demand their right of return as refugees to their original homelands, now in present-day Israel.
