Eng387RAMALLAH (PNIC):-The Palestinian government slammed, on Monday, the Israeli government's approval of 22 million shekels ($6.1 million) in government funding to expand an illegal Israeli settlement inside the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

The Palestinian government's spokesperson, Youssef al-Mahmoud, said in a statement that the approval is a "literal translation of the occupation's plans that is based on what became known as the 'Deal of the Century.'"

He called it expansion of an Israeli settlement in the center of Hebron City is "a declaration of a new war against the Palestinian people, a blatant targeting of their existence, and an attack on international laws and resolutions."

Al-Mahmoud called upon the international community to promptly act and enforce international laws that would prevent this settlement aggression, and to provide the necessary international protection to the Palestinian people, their properties and holy sites.

The Hebron Municipality also condemned the approval and said that this is a flagrant violation of international law and norms that criminalize the illegal Israeli settlements, and a new step towards the Judaization of Hebron City, which means the continued harassment of citizens and violation of the most basic rights.

The Mayor of the Hebron Municipality, Taysir Abu Sneineh, said that "The municipality will not stand idly by in the face of these grave violations and will work hard to confront this decision."

Abu Sneineh called on all human rights organizations to confront this decision and pressure the Israeli government to stop its violations and attacks against the property of Palestinian residents and institutions.
